This summer the Kentucky Library & Museum on WKU’s campus will be installing and updating its heating and cooling systems causing portions of the building to be temporarily closed.
From Memorial Day to July 4, the newer section of the Kentucky Library & Museum will be affected including the Research Library and some exhibit areas. From July through mid-October, the older part of the building will go through a more extensive installment process that will involve the Kentucky Room, Gift Store, Education, and Manuscript areas, providing up-to-date environmental conditions for artifacts, and public areas.
The Welcome Center will remain open.
“No time is a good time for renovations at a public facility; however, the project is definitely overdue,” said Dr. Mike Binder, Dean of WKU Libraries. “Upon completion, there will be a notable difference in the quality of heat and air throughout the building that will better serve our audiences long term.”
Timothy Mullin, Director of the Kentucky Museum, says the building will remain open the entire time but sections will be closed for the safety of the patrons. “I would encourage anyone who wants to visit this summer to call in advance or to check our website to see what areas will be under renovation,” Mullin said.
