WKU will host Making a Difference: Kentucky Educational Leadership Doctoral Symposium on March 31 and April 1 to explore key issues facing education in Kentucky and opportunities for making a difference.
The symposium will provide a forum for doctoral students in Educational Leadership from across the state to connect with key educational leaders, legislators and policy makers in exploring these issues. University faculty and administrators, P-12 administrators and teachers, and community leaders are invited to attend the Symposium and participate in these forward-thinking discussions.
The Making a Difference symposium will be held at the Knicely Conference Center at the WKU South Campus. Featured speakers will include Dr. Kati Haycock, President of the Education Trust, and Dr. Will Parker, Regional Outreach Director for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). The conference will also include a panel of educational leaders, interactive sessions on issues/challenges, student presentations on research, and sessions on planning for positive change. In the evening on March 31, there will be a reception, dinner and speaker.
Registration is available online at the Conference website on the Doctoral Studies home page. The registration fee is $125. The conference website also includes a Call for Student Presentations. Students who are interested in sharing about their current research at the Symposium are invited to apply; the deadline for applications has been extended to noon March 7.
Dr. Haycock, opening session speaker, is a leading advocate in child education and has worked to close the achievement gap for Kentucky’s children. Dr. Haycock will share data on educational attainment, participation, and quality in Kentucky in the context of national data, to clarify Kentucky’s strengths, weaknesses and needs and its comparative status with other states and the nation as a whole.
Dr. Parker, the keynote speaker, is an educational leader, national and international presenter, professor, writer, and accomplished performer. Building upon his diverse background in educational leadership, Dr. Parker has worked to create programs and initiatives for national certification organizations, business and school community partnerships, national STEM education programs, regional school improvement teams, and district-wide teacher leader and administrator leadership programs.
