Award-winning journalist, author and political analyst Juan Williams will deliver the keynote address for 2011 Black History Month activities at WKU.
Williams’ presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at Downing University Center Auditorium. Admission is free.
With uncompromising integrity and insight into issues and ideas that dictate the nation’s discourse, Williams has risen to the top of the media as one of the most accomplished writers, thinkers and journalists.
Williams, who earned his bachelor’s degree from Haverford College, is a political analyst for Fox News Channel; a former editorial writer, columnist and White House correspondent at The Washington Post; and a former senior correspondent for NPR. Williams has contributed to national magazines including TIME, Fortune, The Atlantic Monthly, The New Republic, Ebony and GQ.
As an Emmy winner for television documentary writing, Williams has won widespread critical acclaim. He has written six highly regarded books on the state of our nation, including Enough: The Phony Leaders, Dead-End Movements and Culture of Failure That Are Undermining Black America – and What We Can Do About It.
Williams generates informed and intelligent discussion, whether engaging an audience or appearing on Nightline, Washington Week in Review, Crossfire, and Capitol Gang Sunday.
His visit is presented by the WKU Black History Celebration & Cultural Preservation Committee with support from Campus Activities Board, African American Studies, Office of Diversity Programs, Academic Affairs, Housing and Residence Life, Student Activities and WKYU-PBS.
Other Black History Month events
WKU’s Black History Month events begin Tuesday (Feb. 1) with an opening ceremony at 5 p.m. at Garrett Conference Center, room 103.
Activities during the month include lectures, presentations, a film series and special programming on WKU-PBS.
Lectures and presentations include Rendered Invisible by Dr. Frank Dobson Jr. at 6 p.m. Feb. 9 at Downing University Center, room 340; Uncovered and without Shelter, I Joined This Movement for Freedom by Bernice Johnson Reagon at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at Van Meter Hall; and Isaac Murphy: I Dedicate This Ride by Frank X Walker at 6 p.m. Feb. 22 at Downing University Center, room 340.
