WKU’s NewsChannel 12 is one of two finalists in the 2010 Ultimate Newscast Makeover contest.
NewsChannel 12, the student-run TV newscast in WKU’s School of Journalism & Broadcasting, and News 26, a local cable news operation in Cadillac, Mich., presented compelling and creative “why me” videos and were clearly the most “in‐need” applicants selected as finalists by the contest partners FX Design Group, Giant Octopus and Stephen Arnold Music.
“We were really surprised at how creative and well done their video submissions were. And that was the key to selecting the finalists,” said FX project manager Chris Jagielski.
The contest began in 2010 and received 25 applications for the grand prize of a set area makeover, graphics and music packages.
The design process for each finalist has been completed by FX and the designs are available for viewing and voting online through Sunday (Jan. 23). The finalist with the most votes will win the contest. Their new set area will be built, delivered and installed in March.
“It is a real honor to be selected as one of two finalists in this national competition,” said Dr. David Lee, dean of WKU’s Potter College of Arts & Letters. “This is an excellent opportunity for the School of Journalism and Broadcasting to further highlight the extraordinary work of its many award‐winning journalism students by updating the set they use for the newscast that airs on the PBS affiliate here in Bowling Green.”
