Beth Laves, Assistant to the Dean at WKU’s Division of Extended Learning and Outreach, has been named Interim Associate Vice President for DELO.
Dr. Laves will begin her new role Oct. 1 and will continue until the permanent position is filled, Provost Gordon Emslie said. As Assistant to the Dean, Dr. Laves has coordinated Summer Sessions and Winter Term. She will replace Don Swoboda who retired as Dean this month.
“I encourage you to give Dr. Laves your full support as DELO moves forward in its mission of utilizing strong partnerships with the academic colleges to provide access and academic enrichment to our students,” Dr. Emslie said in a message to the campus.
DELO is made up of units that take the educational resources of WKU to the citizens of Kentucky and around the world. It is the outreach arm of the University, offering both credit and non-credit classes to students of all ages.
DELO partners with University faculty and departments to offer convenient and flexible learning opportunities to students. It works with businesses and organizations to provide customized training, to plan special events, and to develop degree programs that meet their specific needs.
Dr. Emslie also thanked Dr. Swoboda, the founding Dean of DELO, “for his unswerving commitment to building DELO into what it is today, and to wish him well in his well-earned retirement.”
