April 30 deadline for applications for Todd Gibbs Memorial Scholarship

WKU is accepting applications for the Todd Gibbs Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship can be awarded to a graduating high school senior, nontraditional student or a current WKU student. Strong consideration is given to students from Allen County majoring in communications or government, but the scholarship isn’t limited to applicants from that county or majors.

The student must be in good academic standing, have strong civic and community involvement and represent the attributes the late Todd Gibbs exhibited.

The personal values of the applicant will be considered and strong consideration will be given to a student who has overcome physical or financial obstacles.

A scholarship application must be completed including a written response on a selected topic. The final selection of a scholarship recipient will be determined by a committee.

Application deadline is April 30.  To apply for the Todd Gibbs Memorial Scholarship, contact Andy Wagoner, Student Financial Assistance, WKU, 1906 College Heights Blvd. #11018, Bowling Green, KY 42101-1018.

About the Todd Gibbs scholarship: Gibbs, 31, died in October 1995 after complications from cystic fibrosis. The scholarship fund in his memory was established through WKU’s Office of University Relations.

A native of Scottsville, Gibbs spent much of his life “beating the odds” of the disease as he was active in high school, community and college activities and was elected to the Scottsville City Council in 1991 and re-elected in 1993. The former National Poster Child for Cystic Fibrosis worked for seven years with WLCK radio in his hometown and worked in WKU Office of University Relations as a student from 1990 and continued working there following his graduation in May 1994.
