Kuhlenschmidt was honored for her session “Where are the CTL’s? Implications for Strategic Planning and Research” and will receive the award Oct. 31 at the 34th annual POD Network Conference in Houston.
“I felt very honored, excited, and humbled to be recognized by my colleagues in faculty development,” said Kuhlenschmidt, who is also a psychology professor at WKU. “When things aren’t going well with a project you can wonder if it is worth the time and struggles but affirmation like this encourages one to forge ahead.”
Up to three awards a year are given for proposals that reflect original research, and not simply implementation of an innovative program or reflection on best practices. Kuhlenschmidt’s research was peer reviewed by several criteria: internal coherence, alignment with the POD Strategic Plan, and value to advancing the field of professional development. Kuhlenschmidt’s session was commended for its rigorous research, the reliability and usefulness of the data, and its comprehensive scope and potential impact on the whole field of faculty development.
During the convention, Kuhlenschmidt also received the 2009 Bob Pierlioni Spirit of POD Service Award, which recognizes members who have made selfless contributions through their longtime professional service to the organization and the field.
