The Center for Gifted Studies at WKU will host the Administrators Institute: Leading a School that Meets the Needs of the Gifted on Oct. 29-30.
The institute will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. CDT Oct. 29 and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CDT Oct. 30 at the Knicely Conference Center at the WKU South Campus.
Presenters include Dale Brown, former superintendent of Warren County schools; Dr. Mary Evans, principal at Cumberland Trace Elementary School; Dr. Julia Roberts, director of The Center for Gifted Studies; and Tracy Inman, associate director of The Center.
Designed for school and district leaders, this institute provides practical strategies that, when embraced by a school or school system, prepare children for life in the 21st century. Participants at past institutes have tackled such questions as: How do you establish a climate for differentiation? And what does research about giftedness say? How can a school best serve gifted young people? Participants leave the Institute with many practical strategies that can easily be replicated and implemented in schools and districts.
In a flattened world, young people all across America must be better prepared scientifically, technologically and educationally to compete in a global economy. However, a recent study released by the ACT says that as few as 2 in 10 students are academically prepared for college. Too often our students are not participating in a relevant and rigorous curriculum. Too often the young people who are gifted and talented are not challenged in the classroom. As a result, gifted young people are not meeting their extraordinary potential. School and district leaders play a critical role in ensuring that the needs of all students are met – including the gifted and talented.
The Administrators Institute will be held at the Carroll Knicely Center on Nashville Road in Bowling Green. Cost is $250 per person or $225 for five or more from a district. Lunch will be provided Oct. 30. EILA credit is available.
