Veterans Upward Bound program at WKU to receive continued funding

Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) at WKU will continue to receive funding through the 2010-2011 year. The funding from the U.S. Department of Education will remain the same as in the previous two years at $178,881, a tribute to the marked success of the program, according to Director Randy Wilson.

The VUB program focuses on providing academic assistance to qualified veterans and helping them to continue their education after high school. Since its first year in 1992, the program has served nearly 1,500 veterans, many of whom have continued on to postsecondary and graduate school endeavors.

Not only does the VUB program provide excellent support and mentoring for veterans, their services are completely free to qualified veterans. It is the only program of its kind in the state of Kentucky, with only 41 similar programs in the United States.
