Potter College of Arts & Letters, in partnership with WKYU-PBS and the Bowling Green Noon Rotary Club, will sponsor the 2008 World Food Day Teleconference from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 16) at Downing University Center, room 226.

The theme of this year’s teleconference is “Choices for A Warm and Hungry Planet.” Three experts will discuss some of the most critical global issues that are impacted by climate change and global warming; how and why the poor are especially affected; and the challenges and choices for the academic community and civil society.

World Food Day USA is a worldwide event designed to increase awareness, understanding, and informed year-around action to alleviate hunger. It is observed each Oct. 16 in recognition of the founding of the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1945. The first World Food Day was held in 1981. In the United States the endeavor is sponsored by 450 national, private voluntary organizations.
